lol. I would have chosen a sheep - so that after counting enough of them I could drift off into a lovely sleep.

Awwww, now that's just being mean jedbot  :-[  Hey, but at least I know I'm asleep!  :-\  (I can't seem to get me some real good dreams though  ??? )

Back on topic - I have a friend who has recently written a book (am I allowed to mention that?).

He proposes that 'thoughts' evolve just like living things (much faster of course). They evolve over a lifetime (with significant contributions and feedback from mum and dad, teachers, friends, partners and society in general - I'll add in books and mysterious gurus to the mix) and, just like physical evolution, the fittest thoughts 'survive' and dominate. They are like a parasite, worse than a parasite even - as they co-opt the host into believing and acting like they are a part of the host (vs just a parasite). And this 'belief' (now that's a powerful thought!) and subsequent actions reinforces the strength and fitness of the thoughts - to the extent that some hosts will even kill or 'die' for the thoughts (beliefs) if the thoughts are threatened.

Made of clever stuff, these thoughts are...  Baaaaaa!

Excellent observations...about something that has a beginning and an end, hence nothing to do with your final goal.

But, chew on it, and get back to me with your ''thoughts''.

Love ya, Jed

Ok, how does one survive in this society without having and expressing thoughts and opinions?

Letting thoughts just be thought parasites means you’d be at the mercy of everyone else’s thought parasites and you’d be dancing to ‘others’ thoughts and beliefs. It’s kinda like a nuclear arms race - I’ll keep my nukes cause I know you have your nukes and I need mine cause I can’t trust you esp. if you could vote someone in like trumpet who could press that red button cause fox and friends told him so.

How does this work in life then? At work - I’m supposed to have a bloody opinion to be seen as contributing - then let’s all discuss our opinions (thoughts) and see whose come out on top in the end. Should I just steam roll, oblivious to anything but my own agenda (eg Trumpet - seems to have worked fir him so far), or be empathetic and open to shades of gray (50 of them I’m told!), or kowtowe to my boss superior opinion (hahahahaha ... x infinity), or be ruthlessly (ruthless truth), logical and fact based, or swing with the tide of popular opinion, or make up facts/stories to support my angle. And this is all about something I really don’t give a **** about (i.e. should we improve a minor work prices or not).

Then we move away from werk and into friendships, family and relationship and the reliance on thoughts and opinions gets even worse!!!!

Tell me/us jedbot, how do you navigate life without reliance on thoughts? I’m truly, really curious... how do you know when to pretend to think or care vs really thinking or caring (if you actually ever do care ‘my only sunshine’?).

What does life become when you have seen through thoughts? Do you have capacity for romantic relationships, for special friends, to feel obligated, to feel sorrow or happiness, to engage emotionally in any lasting way?  I hope not (lol) cause that’s where all the ‘rub’ is that we are all looking to see-through.

Over to you,
Your white flower of death. SIAS

Please reduce to on or two sentences that clearly states your question. It's most helpful to me, and really helpful to you.

Love ya, Jed.

Being succinct has never been a strength of mine..

Premise: Having (my) thoughts and opinions seems to be really important in this society in order to survive (protect my turf?).

Question: How do ‘you’ still survive (do what you want, earn money, food, company, friends, housing, fun, romance, exercise, sleep) without attachment/forcing your thoughts/opinions onto/over others?

Shorter still...

What do you do when others with ‘power’ over you impose or want you to be/do things (or not do things) that you want to be/do (or not want to be/do)?

[Is this how Hamlet felt? To be or not? Lol]

Thanks for you condensed version.

Let's cut to the chase... no prelude here, no sugar coating. When you realize that Truth is, what you think is ''you'' disappears. Someone trying to do things or assert power over you loses their impact. It's like they are trying to nail jello to the wall. What might be experiences as a sting in the past becomes insignificant. What is really significant in a dream when you have realized it's a dream?

Thank Jed, I understand, but I clearly don’t know Truth. I intellectually understand the concept and that our stories and thoughts are made up dreamscapes - but I identify so much with them. It’s like being in a ego competition I don’t want to participate in but I’m terrified of pulling out of the game cause if I do may not find another way of being and be even more dissatisfied. And the slow, incremental disillusionment feels sometimes like one step forward two steps back. Sigh.
