Thanks for your help so far. I think you've helped me help myself clear up some clouds.
Desire is the thought that one part of the dream is better than another, ain't so. A dream is a dream.
This has become my investigation as of late. I've been looking at what is happening in experience. I see a changing, buzzing, empty, flowing, etc. In short, it is insubstantial. But it didn't seem to matter. How does seeing the nature of experience change anything? Wouldn't it be better to be in a pleasant dream than an unpleasant one?
Then last night, I had two very vivid, lifelike night dreams: one a spiritual dream, where I was sitting with a spiritual master exploring experience, and the other a zombie nightmare survival dream. However, I knew they were both dreams. The appearances and actions didn't change: in the one dream, I listened, explored, and meditated in a calm, well lit room. In the other, I organized survivors and killed zombies in run down shadowy buildings. But because they were dreams, there was no need to resist or try to do anything other than go along with the dream. But the overall sense of it changed. The good dream wasn't the end all be all, and the bad dream wasn't a nightmare. There was no clinging in the one or suffering in the other. They were just appearances on a vast sea of peace.
