Perhaps some definitions are called for. Here's how I use these words. You may agree, or not, but it will help you understand some things I say.
Stupid: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. You will know stupid behavior when, after talking with someone, you realize they are just going in circles. If you interject a possible solution or alternative approach the their complaint, they will sidestep you and go on with the circular story. This doesn't mean the person is stupid, please be clear, it's their behavior that is stupid. An abrupt and powerful pattern interrupt is called for, but usually it's better to maintain you own sanity and excuse yourself. Remain difficult to contact.
Ignorant: The person doesn't know any better or have any alternatives available at the moment. This person will tell you a story and then listen to what you have to say. They are lost and know it. Your ideas may or may not be of value, but the other party will entertain them and discuss them as possibilities. Often a novel alternative solution will arise. Once again, this is about behavior and nothing about the person.
I have friends who exhibit both behaviors. I don't care what their behavior is, I care much more about who they are and what they are perceiving. But I have to admit, ignorant people are much more fun. I love to create, even if it only illusion, it's still fun.
So, if I call you 'stupid' or 'ignorant' you have a better idea of what I mean. If I don't fully understand your situation, you are certainly free to call me 'ignorant', but... be careful with 'stupid'... I am quicksilver fast at changing lanes.
Love ya, Jed.
