the paradigm of addiction vs useful altered states
« on: October 08, 2017, 06:30:44 pm »
I've piddled around extensively with a particular substance (dxm) that alters my consciousness in ways that have seemed very Right-- the universe indicates the way forward, sometimes very obviously with whole crowds of people seeming to indicate my literal footsteps and responding perfectly like a mirror to my inward essence. But sometimes not, and sometimes fear arises and I run to AA and a 9-5er and psych meds and a life of captivity that is sensible, boring, lifeless. On one hand fear based sobriety, on other hand I might just be addicted to a delusional drug- what is the proper Adult response to such a situation?

He there, and thanks for sharing.

It's a little perplexing as there is, in reality, no you and neither is there a particular situation.

I know this may sounds strange, but from my perspective the perfect response is simple... it's whatever you do next. So, wait and see. If you want something else, then do something else, but in the end, the mind and thinking that got you in this situation is not going to get you out. You might want to learn how to breathe properly also.

Love ya, Jed.

Very good, thank you. Whatever I do next has been an operative principle for some time, though the mind loves to think it's making decisions. My question is, i seem to manifest repeating cycles of behavior and playing the same unpleasant role again and again, is this because I am resigning myself (to twelve step paradigms and also a particular job I'm typecasting myself as) to slavery or because I fight back and the job type etc is a result of inability to surrender egoic control? In my current state I'd settle even for the illusion of freedom which punch-clock American dream low economic class living does not provide. In fact my real question might be just this- how do I escape the American Dream nightmare and manifest a more pleasant and relaxing dreamstate?

Until you accept total responsibility for all that arises to you, (in my experience) nothing is going to change much... but change does always occur. Why not just leave? What's stopping you?

Love ya, Jed.

It’s exactly what I wanted!
I look back on this post and it seems like it was written a million years ago by someone else. So much self created suffering... only it wasn’t really suffering and there was no self creating anything. Hey, thanks for your time and attention.
