The quest for Truth
« on: July 01, 2018, 06:19:35 am »
Hey Jed,

I have been 'trying' self-inquiry since a while. I am not able to get in touch with the sense of 'I am.' When I close my eyes and ask, 'Who am I?' I am aware of some vague images of the lining of my body, some sensations, sounds... all perception. There is just perception. Not able to find an I nor the sense of I am.

Should I keep doing it the way I am doing it? Or can you point me towards a more accurate direction?

Thanks!
Sager

Hi Sager:

What are expecting to get? Seriously... not trying to be a smart-ass... but tell me what are expecting.

Then I will point as best I can.

Love ya, Jed

Now that you asked, it got clarified for me. I have been looking for an experience of 'no-self.' An experience where my body dissolves and merges with everything and I realise that I am everything and there is nothing else. A sudden explosion. A miraculous/magical experience. At lease an insight into the Truth. A grand aha moment.

Forget all those things, you don't really know if they are even possible. You have to go with the attitude that anything that arises is not It. Just keep seeking that which informs you that you are. Stick with it.

Love ya, Jed.

I have been trying the same thing since a while; inquiring, 'Who am I?'. Not consistently though. But recently, got really serious about it. Thanks to the book Spiritual Warfare and some other factors maybe.

So, I realise that what I am looking for is not something I can imagine, perceive, think of or conceive of. And I keep on looking. And I don't find anything. The mind gets distracted. I bring it back. In a session of one hour, serious inquiry happens for maybe ten minutes.

So? Should I just keep looking and looking and looking?

Do it this way, focus for ten minutes and then stop. Go have a beer, watch YT, anything you want... but not inquiry. Ten focused minute only.

Love ya, Jed
