in order for there to be a me, i must not only contract, but also establish boundary. no perceiver, no perceived, just perceiving, expands and does not require such effort. but at times, the effort is indicated. after all, there's still got to be some version of me to get to market.

memories seem stored in the metabolism and limbs, with the brain acting as organizer, records-keeper and translator. the body, teacher of learned response? or the body, a neutral thing when unshackled from memories?

Smaller for sure! And what was even more interesting was realizing or recognizing that feeling. I am now aware when I feel that way. Night and day!
Much love,

claudia

Dear J:

You are a control freak and your mind wanders all over the place. Where is the control in that. Maybe you only want to control it and fail. Most folks do.

Regarding specificity, many folks hide behind fluffy language. It keeps them from having to deal with the real garbage in their world.

If you were engineering an airplane you would say 'Oh, let's make it about 50 or so feet long'. That wouldn't get you anywhere. If you want to learn about 'you' it's useful to be specific.

Love ya, Jed.

To which you can use the old meta-model and say.... 'How specifically do you love me? How do you know when you love me and when you don't. What would cause you to love me? Do you love me ALL the time?' It an excellent tool for finding out deeper meaning and thoughts. Enough said...

I prefer the word 'contemplation' to 'meditation'. Most people do doze off. There is a simple trick to it. Just don't close you eyes.

Maybe try the technique with eyes open. Feedback welcome.

love ya, Jed.

Dear Jed,
While reading the first part of your excercise my husband was sick. He
was vomiting in the bathroom. Making these noises, moaning etc....I immediately shifted attention. I'm familiar with the exercise but this was quite a challenge Also feelings and thoughts of digust showed up.

At the moment I'm in Baden Baden in Germany, drinking decaf cappucino's and
shifting attention as much as possible. I realise the impermanent nature of perceiving. Thoughts, smells, visions, sounds, touches and tastes come and go, come and go....always new and fresh and never the same.

I enjoy your feedback.

Now, something else I would like you to notice and let me know (Lord knows I wouldn't want to give you imbedded commands to experience some specific or not-so-specific thing) what happens.

What is happening with your eyes through all this.

Feedback.

Love ya, Jed.

Is there eyes? or ears? or skin for that matter? I'm not teasing! Just haven't notice they were there at all...
You might just as well ask, what happens to the green ball hanging in the left corner (?) and I wouldn't know what you're talking about.

Oh, just shut up and go feed the dog, will you?

Hi Jed, I don't quite understand your question. Maybe it's meant for Gwen only.

Hi there:

Don't make it more complicated than it need be. Do you notice anything going on with you eyes when you do it.

Love ya, Jed.

I'm not seeking fireworks here....

I noticed two things:

- when I put the you there it feels like it covers up the actual sound. So there's either the sound or there's the "me"
- re the eyes, they relax as/when the you is dropped. I didn't notice that they tense up when the you is inserted

the seeing is much sharper than normal; the eyes, I don't know, I'm not sure I use them really for seeing  - there's no strain on the eyes, they don't get tired which is the case if I stare around.
