Dear KC:

Thanks for your post and quite meaningful question. It's not so much that I am against meditation, it's that meditation as most people take it is a waste of time. Of course there is not such as time and one could never waste it if it existed, I will use those words.

Just because S/A worked for me doesn't mean that it's the only way to do/not do, this. This illusion that there is a higher level is typical NABS. Find out who would stay at such a level. Who would dig down into the illusion? Taking the assumption that all is illusion is like trying to make a symptom the real thing. Find the real thing and then whatever symptom comes is what comes.

Love ya, Jed.

Hi Jed,

I wanted to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for this rant. I was one of those people who tried S/A years ago. I think what I did was a combination of journaling and S/A, but I think what I have been doing mostly up to now is journaling - dissecting ego.  When I tried S/A, like those you mentioned in your post, I always seemed to get stuck. But this morning I attempted S/A again and I realized that getting stuck is part of the process. For some reason, this was a great revelation for me and I was just filled with such gratitude that I had to thank you for helping me see that.

Thank you,
KC

Great rant.I do have a question though
When I first heard about neti neti I thought it was the best way to TR but after hearing UG talking about this I'm not so sure about it anymore
He disproves neti neti saying that, although this path is called the via negativa/the negative way, the goal (TR) is still a positive one
What do you think?

What does 'positive' mean?
Curious.

TIA.

Neti neti is a legitimate method because nothing that is perceived is it. The catch is it takes much focus and a long time.

An answer is ignorance (a belief). The question (derived from the answer) is a request for reinforcing the ego, for confirming the belief. Staying with the question means analyzing the belief that is behind the question (the belief masked by the question).

Hey Lian.Could you expand more about the ''question is derived from the answer'' part?

Jonnydas, I think positive in this context mean wanting to achieve a goal (in this case, SE)..which is a ...positive thing

I doubt that very much, since there isn't really such a thing as Spiritual Enlightenment, so if you set SE as a goal you're bound for disappointment and that could be considered "negative". Setting a goal, any goal, is exactly what will keep you from reaching it (cos in the end there will be no "you" to reach a "goal"). So, no, I doubt wanting to achieve a goal is positive... well, maybe positive for ego and maya, cos "achieving a goal" will keep you busy forever and they will have won (again).

Positive is the opposite of negative, which only exist in duality, but since duality is an illusion, there is no such thing as positive (or negative, for that matter)

Dear Ares: I was quoting Jed and UG. I guess it denotes the desire to reinforce the ego. Ego feels unsafe alone, so it seeks the safety provided by the herd. One person wants its beliefs to be accepted by a group, to conform to the common beliefs (or viceversa). Ego develops by refining its beliefs, for which it seeks reinforcement, posed as questions (like 'do you agree with me?', 'isn't it the way I believe?', 'isn't true I discovered something cool?', 'would you add yourself this new cool theory to your ego?'). The questions of the ego may take a very specific form, but I believe their essence to be as exemplified above.

Dear Jed,
How to know which method is the most suitable one for someone? Is the one makes that person feel most sleepy and dizzy the best one for him/ her? Thanks.

Ares, I'm just finding that I have no idea what people mean when they say things or write things. So I am asking follow-up questions to get clarity, particularly words like 'positive'. Some folks get pissed off.
I'm coming to believe that everything I think I understand from conversation or written correspondence is just a belief.
I will never really know what they really meant to say or write, like ever.
I guess that's the way it goes, right?

Dignity is a selfish thing, based on self-image. The presence of dignity is an indication of the ego. Dignity is based on a lie at the core that is never questioned. A man who sees the truth is beyond insult.

Humility is a strange thing,  the moment you think you've it you've lost it. Same with T/R.

God tells his name to Moses: I am that I am. This is a recursive definition, like fractals. 'I am' is the function name, while 'that I am' is the function body, with a function call at the end, 'I am' (tail recursion). The result is 'I am that I am that I am that...', in other words, 'I am everything'. This is a concise definition of the Absolute Truth, the only thing there is.
