Jed Rant on Truth
« on: September 22, 2014, 02:45:05 am »
Dear Member:

You have hit a few nails on the  head, but the problem is your head. Any decent guru is always playing games with you. Not in a negative sense. He is a trickster who wants to trick your mind into going to sleep, stepping aside or just seeing how silly it is.

All exercises are b.s. because there is no one there to do them, but, and this is a big but, you have a massive thinking system rut that has to be leveraged out of. If I said religiously kiss your pinky finger every ten minutes and you'd get enlightened, and you did it, it might work. However there are slightly more effective ways.

I want you to use your mind to show your mind that you have no mind. Now, that's not an easy thing to pull off, as I'm sure you know by now. I don't want devotees in the sense that they admire me, I want folks to find a particular technique or method and devote themselves to that method until it dawns on them. WTF, this all a big joke. Then, you will (maybe) get it. Walk around and say neti neti until you  are blue in the face, but say it with meaning, the deepest most thoughtful meaning you can, contemplate one by one each item, most particularly your thoughts and feelings. Do it for two or three years diligently, or perhaps SA would suit you better.

Some folks sit down to  do SA and just think 'Hell, I can't write anything that's true', and they give up. That's a head decision and not much use. SA is a contemplation.

I'm writing on a piece of paper. Is that true? Is this really paper? Would I bet my life on it? And this pen, is it a pen? But wait, 'I' am writing, is that true? Get the hang of it and you can write what appears to others to be silly nonsense, hours and hours, but is it silly? Is it nonsense, truly nonsense. Who is asking all these questions? Is it true that these are questions? Back to something that's true? Am I really sitting here? Where is here? I am here? No, I'm not sure of that? Could I be somewhere else?

Don't just whip this stuff out, volume isn't as important as the contemplation of each sentence. You might write a statement at the top of a page and then underneath is ask 'Is that true' and list you thoughts about it. This is one of the best ways of walking back the way you  came in, backtracking if you will.

Do it as a true devotee and see what comes up. Just always come back to something that is true. You will wander but that's just fine. Your wandering might lead to something that is true, NOT truthish, but TRUE.

You can just write out any one sentence and spend an hour contemplating if it is really true. Who is saying it's true or not. Where is the who who says so and on what basis? Is there a house of cards here?

On and on it goes. Just try it. You would be amazed at what a b.s.er you are. You're absolutely full of lies. Nothing true ever comes out of 'mind' but that the fox hole we have to dig our way out of... is that true???

love ya, Jed.

What, if any, place do scientific 'truths' have in this process? I'm thinking primarily of the ones promulgated by quantum physics wherein particles are also waves of energy which essentially flash on/off, here/there at the (alleged) speed of light. This seems a fairly conclusive argument against any objective reality to the seemingly physical universe

Notdan:

I remember being in school and having a science teacher teach me a law, then a few years later I was told that law was not true and had to learn a new law, a few years later, another 'new' law.

Now, being T/R doesn't mean I am brilliant, but at a young age I realized that it was all made up. THEY WERE MAKING THIS CRAP UP.

Now, any kind of law should be value past, present and future to enter my good books.

Scientist are making stuff up all the time, and we don't question it. I don't really know, but I doubt if many are T/R because their minds a closed tighter that a fishes you know what.

Just my take. If you think science is going to T/R you.... well, there are better ways, trust me. DO NOT turn to science to confirm you beliefs, test them rigorously.

If they turn out to support you, use them, but don't believe them.

Love ya, Jed.

Jed;
Even though I expected you to say something like that it still felt like a punch in the gut. Apparently I have a lot of belief structures tied up with science. Thank you for that punch!

Moro;
Thanks for the analogy. It seems right, but I need to run it through the software a few times to grok its fullness.

Omg, stop with bullshit people, please. You're wasting your time. Do exactly as Jed explained. It's the only path to the simple empty truth.

IF you ever reach the conclusion, you'll be overwhelmed at first. You'll literally observe that 'self' of yours start to dissolve and eventually vanish... And hopefully then you won't have any more questions to ask...

Dear Stephan:

Your profound quote 'Don't just blow the balloon, blow till it pops!'

Another version of further, but a great way to express it. I may use it, with your permission.

And YES George, how do I get these cats to herd. Darn........

Love ya, Jed.

Just read this rant now, because "Gretis" posted a reply (thnx for that).

Good rant. It's what I did and so I can honestly say it works and the only way to find that out is to go and do it. Stop pissing about, stop looking for confirmation outside of yourself (guru's, science, Jed) and write something that is true.

the guru is tricking me into stepping outside after two days of rain, getting my mind to break against Nature and her innumerable expressions of 'green'.

i am amazed at what a b.s.er i am. i contain multitudes.
not this. not that.

...on and on, over and out. what is over? what is out?

the only way to stop fighting is to stop fighting. brace for embrace, knowing it's all for not.

I really want to thank you for this post. It is really what I needed to hear.

I do have a question, though. If the whole goal is to go beyond the mind, then wouldn't meditation (I know you are not a fan) or trying to stay inwardly focused, possibly by placing attention on breathing, be an alternative method to SA? (Is staying up at a high level and trying to realize that everything is an illusion a viable option versus digging down into the illusion? Or is that just trying to use the mind to brain wash the mind into believing that everything is an illusion? Does this make sense?

Thanks.
